Meet Our Teaching Artists

My development as an artist/teacher is a journey closely intertwined between teaching visual arts and working as an artist.

Jayne Couch began teaching ‘Drawing at the National Gallery’ for the Ottawa School of Art in 2013. She continues to teach a weekly course at OSA where she provides an interactive and rational approach to drawing.

A Resident Studio Artist at the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning, Bethany is a seasoned contemporary artist, Restoration Specialist, and Quilt Conservator.

Mark Julien is the writer and Illustrator of the LGBTQ graphic novel Justin Case and the Closet Monster.

Heather Poechman (They/She) is a community-rooted queer artist and arts educator.

Liv Rondeau is a Kanyen'kehá:ka educator and artist, working with local organizations to support workshops and events rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing.

Whether as a band leader or ensemble member, Zebulun Barnow has been in the Music business since childhood.

Nancy Douglas is an illustrator and teaching artist. Since 1995 her painterly collage illustrations have appeared in publishing, advertising, and most recently in animation.

For thirty years, I have been telling my own original historical fiction, LBGTQ, fantasy stories and traditional folktales.

Jan LeClair is a Kingston Ontario based accordionist. Hailing originally from south eastern Ontario, Jan has been a performance musician for
much of her life.

Janice Pomer has been teaching, performing and creating in the fields of dance, music, and physical theatre since 1976 providing innovative movement experiences for learners and viewers of all ages and abilities.

Leisa Rich is an experimental visual artist who transforms materials in unique ways via dyeing, painting, melting, sculpting, heat transfer, embroidery, 3D printing, laser cutting, resin and more.

Diane Black is a Kingston artist who began her training in the field of illustration and graphic design. In her studio practice, she focuses on working with clay, particularly clay sculpture.

Peggy Fussell is an illustrator, animator, and teaching-artist.

Alyssa Vernon (she/her) is a passionate Black and queer teacher and learner who incorporates art (collage) into educational spaces in order to blend creativity into unlearning, while imagining futures where everyone is free.
